About the Fellowship

Be a Leader in the Field of
Child Welfare

The Michigan Title IV-E Child Welfare Fellowship supports Michigan’s commitment to improving outcomes for children and families by strengthening its child welfare workforce. It is a unique and beneficial partnership among the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, accredited social work programs at five Michigan universities, and field placements in public, private, or tribal welfare agencies in the State of Michigan. This program is federally funded under the Title IV-E Social Security Act.

The Fellowship At-A-Glance

Complete Dedicated Coursework

Leading to the Child Welfare Certificate Endorsement at the BSW or MSW level

Receive a $5,000 Stipend

Per eligible semester

Field Placement in a Child Welfare Agency

Such as foster care, adoption or children’s protective services

Commitment to a Post Graduate Career in a Public, Private or Tribal Child Welfare Agency

Eligibility and Select Requirements

Have been accepted into a Social Work program

Complete the state of Michigan Child Welfare Certificate requirement

Maintain good academic standing while in the program

Meet with the Title IV-E academic advisor at least once per semester

Register for classes as required by the university’s course curriculum requirements

Meet program field instruction requirements in a public, private, and/or tribal child welfare agency

Commit to searching for and accepting employment in approved child welfare organizations post-graduation
